Chiefs wide receiver Hollywood Brown returns to practice. Here’s his status for Sunday

The alarm clock emoji told the story.

In a late-Thursday social media post, Chiefs wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown suggested it’s time to return — and now he has received clearance to practice. He was on the field with the team during Friday’s workout..

The Chiefs’ biggest offseason signing ahead of the 2024 season, Brown has not played since suffering a sternoclavicular injury on the first play of the preseason at the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was placed on injured reserve.

The Chiefs have a three-week window to activate Brown. He won’t play Sunday when the Chiefs visit the Cleveland Browns, Andy Reid said on Friday.

“He practiced today, did a nice job,” Reid said. “He won’t play this week.”

After Sunday, the Chiefs play the Houston Texans on Dec. 21 at home. Their next game is at the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Day.

Brown has averaged 62 receptions over five NFL seasons, three with the Baltimore Ravens and the previous two with the Arizona Cardinals. His best season came in 2021, when he caught 91 passes for 1,008 yards with the Ravens.

The Chiefs expected to enter the season with Brown and Rashee Rice as their top wide receiver weapons. But Rice was lost for the season with a knee injury in Week 4.

The Chiefs signed Pro Bowl receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who has four touchdown receptions in seven games with KC this season.
