With victory, Chiefs become one of 3 teams in NFL history to accomplish this feat
With the victory over Carolina Panthers on Sunday, the Chiefs moved a game closer to clinching another playoff berth and winning yet another AFC West crown.
Also, by improving to 10-1 with a thrilling 30-27 road victory on Sunday at the Carolina Panthers in Week 12 of the NFL season, they joined a small circle of organizations with 10 straight years of 10 or more wins.
That’s right. The Chiefs have won at least 10 games for a decade, an amazing stretch of consistency that has been surpassed by only two organizations.
The New England Patriots’ dynasty of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick won at least 10 games for 17 straight seasons beginning in 2003.
That topped the 16 straight accomplished by the San Francisco 49ers from 1983 until 1998. Those were the teams of Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterbacks Joe Montana and Steve Young, with Bill Walsh and George Seifert as head coaches.
All of these teams carried their regular-season success into the postseason. The Patriots won five of their six Super Bowls in that span, the 49ers four of their five.
The Chiefs’ three Super Bowl championships under Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes have come during this stretch. But during the first two years of the streak, starting in 2015, Alex Smith was the Chiefs’ starting quarterback.
The Chiefs had been tied with the Indianapolis Colts of 2002-10 with nine straight seasons of double-digit victories.
Not anymore.
