The Kansas City Chiefs are selling potential playoff tickets a bit earlier than the rest of the NFL.

The team announced that tickets to a potential Wild Card playoff game for the 2024 season will go on sale Wednesday, Nov. 13, on the Chiefs website and Ticketmaster.

Jackson County residents will get the first shot at tickets with a special presale happening from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. The purchase of these tickets must be made with a credit or debit card with a Jackson County ZIP code for billing, or else the sale won’t be official.

Season ticket holders can also opt in for playoff tickets on a “pay-as-we-play” basis, the Chiefs said. This means accounts would be charged once a home game is confirmed. Season ticket members can also purchase additional potential Wild Card tickets starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Tickets go on sale to the general public at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Additional home games, such as potential AFC Divisional Round and AFC Championship games, will go on sale at a later date.

Tickets will be refunded if these games aren’t played. The Wild Card tickets also wouldn’t transfer to a later game if the Chiefs secure the No. 1 seed in the AFC and earn a first-round bye.

Why are the Chiefs selling playoff tickets early?

The Chiefs aren’t jinxing their playoff chances by selling tickets before they clinched a spot. It’s an NFL policy.

Teams that are leading their division or at least at .500 and within three games of first place in their division must make postseason tickets available the Thursday after Week 13, according to a 2019 report from The Athletic. While the NFL season is at Week 11, the Chiefs will be at the top of the AFC West regardless of their outcomes against their next two opponents: the Buffalo Bills and Carolina Panthers.

If a team meets the criteria at any point after Week 13 while still in playoff contention, the club must make playoff tickets available within 24 hours, according to the policy.
