Funko to ‘Pop!’ into KC’s Power & Light for Chiefs opener to launch new NFL figurines
Funko, the maker of those little pop culture figurines with the oversized heads and big black eyes, will launch something new for NFL fans next week on the day the Chiefs set out on a potentially history-making season.
Last year the Washington-based company introduced Pop! Yourself figurines that people can design to look like themselves.
Now, starting Sept. 5 on the company’s website, you can customize one of those by dressing it in the NFL gear of your choice.
(But come on now, why would it wear anything but a Chiefs shirt?)
Funko will celebrate the launch with a Funko Funzone party from 2 to 10 p.m. Sept. 5 at the Power & Light District as the Chiefs open the season against the Baltimore Ravens.
Funko’s partnership with the NFL allows people to customize their vinyl Pop! Yourself figurines with T-shirts and hoodies from all 32 teams.
“This first-of-its-kind collaboration empowers fans to celebrate the people they love and the moments they cherish with a personalized touch, while also proudly displaying their loyalty to their favorite NFL teams,” Funko CEO Cynthia Williams said in a statement.
“We’re thrilled to bring this unique experience to the NFL’s fan base of over 200 million fans.”
Here’s how it will work.
You visit the Funko Pop! Yourself site, where you’ll choose from a selection of gray and white hoodies and V-neck shirts, and give your figurine two accessories. A football? Foam finger? The packaging will be NFL-branded. You’ll also get a digital avatar to share on social media.
The figurine costs $35.
Funko already sells a Patrick Mahomes ($12) figurine with a red Chiefs headband and a Travis Kelce Pop! ($12) wearing a friendship bracelet.
After the Chiefs won the Super Bowl in February, Funko introduced a special four-pack with figurines of Mahomes, Kelce, Isiah Pacheco and Chris Jones wearing their red-and-white home jerseys.
The company also turned Jason Kelce into a shirtless Pop! after he shed his top at the Chiefs-Buffalo Bills game in January. Just like real Jason, it held a beer in one hand and wore a Chiefs-red beanie, gray pants and work boots.
The pop-up party at Power & Light will have games, prizes and the chance to personalize a Pop! Yourself online on the spot.
There will be a friendship bracelet-making station, too.
Need we tell you why?
