How three Chiefs defenders saved the Super Bowl on 49ers’ final drive of regulation

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ two late comebacks in the Chiefs’ 25-22 Super Bowl LVIII victory were only possible thanks to a fourth-quarter stand by KC’s defense.

In this video, KC Star reporter Jesse Newell and Brett Taveau (author of the Chiefs book “Unpacking Greatness” and a longtime high school offensive coordinator) look at three Chiefs defense plays at the end of regulation that prevented the San Francisco 49ers from completely running out the clock before a potential game-winning field-goal attempt.

A review of the film shows three players in particular deserve kudos: defensive lineman Mike Danna, safety Mike Edwards and cornerback Trent McDuffie. In addition, the three followed through on a few mantras Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo has preached all season.
