Kansas City Chiefs at New England Patriots: Commentary from KC’s Week 15 victory

The Kansas City Chiefs earned a victory over the New England Patriots on Sunday, and it was somehow both a convincing win yet one that continued concerns over the Chiefs’ biggest issues.

Big picture, the Chiefs left Sunday at 9-5. They snapped a stretch that saw them lose three of four (and four of six) and remain in the hunt for the AFC’s No. 1 seed. And the AFC West is pretty much locked up after the Broncos lost on Saturday.

But the issues? They were still there in the 27-17 KC win.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire filled in well for Isiah Pacheco, who missed his second straight game for KC. Injuries have also hurt KC on defense, and the Chiefs are down their starting left tackle in Donovan Smith.

Regarding the wide receivers, the Chiefs were ready to move on from the officiating conversation after last week’s loss to the Bills, but a recurring issue — wide receiver drops — showed up again.

Specifically, Kadarius Toney had another disastrous sequence, dropping a ball that turned into an interception (and eventual touchdown) when KC should’ve been in position to run some clock up three scores in the fourth quarter.

The good news: KC, 9-5, faces all backup quarterbacks to close the season, but the team still lacks consistency from the offense, and it needs to get healthy, too.
