KC Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes earned NFL honor after big game vs. Las Vegas Raiders
Patrick Mahomes usually doesn’t wait this long to win the AFC’s weekly offensive award.
His performance against the Las Vegas Raiders, when he passed for 298 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-17 road victory, earned Mahomes the honor for the first time this season.
“It means a ton,” Mahomes said. “It speaks to the team mostly. Most times you win the game and guys around you make plays to get those awards.”
The Chiefs fell behind 14-0 but rallied for the victory to improve to 8-3. Mahomes improved his career record, including playoffs, to 15-11 when the Chiefs trail by double digits.
It’s the 10th such honor of his career, and Mahomes has won the weekly award at least once in every season since becoming the full-time starter in 2018.
Last year, when he won his second NFL MVP award, Mahomes had been named AFC Offensive Player of the Week twice in the first four weeks, and he won the AFC’s monthly award in November. He’s also won a monthly award in each of his Chiefs’ seasons.
