KC Chiefs have been a broadcast sensation, with and without Taylor Swift in the house
The NFL has played 49 international regular-season games since the first one in 2005, and none had more viewers on NFL Network than the Chiefs’ 21-14 victory over the Miami Dolphins in Frankfurt, Germany, on Sunday.
That game that kicked off at 8:30 a.m. in Kansas City drew 9.6 million viewers. The figure does not include those who watched the game on KSHB, Channel 41 in Kansas City.
The game matched teams with 6-2 records, tied for the best in the AFC, with the additional storyline of Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill facing off against his old team. It was the first NFL game played in Frankfurt.
The number continued a viewing trend for the Chiefs. They’ve been the NFL’s highest-rated game for four of the first nine weeks. The Chiefs attracted 24.75 million viewers for the season opener against the Detroit Lions on NBC; 24.33 million on Fox in Week 3 against the Chicago Bears; and 24.83 million viewers against the New York Jets on NBC in Week 4.
Also, 24.28 million turned in on CBS in Week 7 to see the Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers.
What did most of those games have in common? At the stadium for the Chiefs against the Bears, Jets and Chargers was pop music icon Taylor Swift, who watched boyfriend Travis Kelce in action.
