Kansas City Chiefs receiver Justyn Ross arrested Monday in Johnson County
Editor’s note: Justyn Ross has now been charged with two misdemeanors.
Kansas City Chiefs receiver Justyn Ross was arrested Monday afternoon on suspicion of criminal damage to property related to domestic violence, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s booking log.
Records show Ross, of Shawnee, was arrested by Shawnee police Monday shortly before 3 p.m. and booked in the county jail later in the afternoon. A spokesman for the police department referred questions to the district attorney’s office.
Johnson County prosecutors apparently had not filed charges against Ross as of Monday evening. A spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The Chiefs had no comment Monday. Further information about the incident was not immediately known.
Ross, a second-year receiver out of Clemson, has three catches for 34 yards in seven games played for the Chiefs this season. He had his second-highest snap total of the season — 17 — in Sunday’s 31-17 home victory over the Los Angeles Chargers.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid was asked earlier Monday afternoon, a few hours before Ross’ arrest, about the receiver’s additional playing time Sunday.
“We’re trying to bring him along here,” Reid said. “I know he didn’t have the catches, but he was in on quite a few plays. I just think the more of that the better for him. He’s got a lot of talent, and we want to keep bringing him along.”
Ross sat out last year for the Chiefs after having surgery on his ankle before the season. He initially drew buzz as one of the league’s most fascinating undrafted free agents after flashing big potential at Clemson before injuries marred his draft stock.
The 6-foot-4, 210-pound Ross primarily has been utilized as a jump-ball-type receiver for the Chiefs this year. His last offensive production was in Week 5’s win against Minnesota on Oct. 8, as Ross had two catches for 28 yards.
