Chiefs

How much did Kadarius Toney play after bad game? What about Chris Jones & Travis Kelce?

Under Andy Reid, players coming off bad games for the Chiefs don’t have much time to sulk. Kadarius Toney is the latest example.

A week after struggling with dropped passes in the opening game loss, Toney increased his snap count and found himself targeted early and often in the Chiefs’ 17-9 victory at the Jacksonville Jaguars.

On his 19 offensive plays Sunday, Toney was targeted five times and caught all five passes for 35 yards. On one first-quarter possession, Toney caught three passes in a four-plays stretch and turned all receptions into first downs.

It wasn’t a perfect game. A Toney fumble after a reception cost the Chiefs 11 yards. But keeping Toney involved after a tough outing is consistent with Reid’s approach, and it usually pays off.

Here are some other snap count conclusions from Sunday:

* Chris Jones and Travis Kelce made big contributions, and each played more than half the game. Jones was in on 34 of 67 defensive snaps, recorded 1 1/2 sacks and batted down a pass. Kelce was in on 64% of the offensive snaps (46 of 67) and caught a touchdown pass.

* After getting no defensive snaps a week earlier, cornerback Jaylen Watson got 21 against the Jaguars. He made two big plays: an open field tackle on Christian Kirk to prevent a first down and a punt-coverage effort to down a punt at the 2.
