Chiefs’ Andy Reid on Jones, Kelce: ‘As long as nothing happens, they’ll be out there’
Travis Kelce and Chris Jones should be ready to go for the Chiefs when they play at the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, coach Andy Reid said Friday.
“As long as nothing happens, they’ll be out there,” Reid said after the Chiefs’ final practice of the week.
The final injury report of the week lists Kelce as questionable, along with running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire (illness). Edwards-Helaire did not practice Friday.
Kelce, the All-Pro tight end, didn’t meet with reporters Friday but may have signaled his health status with a Lo’eau LaBonta-style twerk.
Last season, the Kansas City Current player scored on a penalty kick and then appeared to be injured. She rubbed her hamstring as she ran before breaking into twerk celebration and big smile.
Kelce flashed a similar move in the few minutes that Friday’s Chiefs practice was open to reporters. As he was jogging between fields, he slowed down, rubbed his right knee and ... twerked.
Kelce missed last week’s loss to the Detroit Lions after hyper-extending his knee in practice two weeks before the game. He’s been listed as a limited participant in practice this week.
Jones watched that game from the stands in the final days of his contract holdout. He signed a new one-year contract earlier this week and has had three days of practice.
Defensive lineman Mike Danna, who had the Chiefs’ lone sack against the Lions, said the team is ready to welcome back Jones, a top defensive player who totaled 15 1/2 sacks last season.
“He’s a force,” Danna said. “Adding that piece back to the puzzle, it’s a great piece. We’re excited to have him back and looking forward to playing our tails off and having him in back in the rotation.”
