Here’s the latest on Kansas City Chiefs’ Travis Kelce, Chris Jones from coach Andy Reid
UPDATE: Chris Jones has agreed to a one-year deal with Chiefs, the team announced later Monday afternoon. Here’s what we know.
Travis Kelce, who missed last week’s season opener after suffering a hyper-extended knee, is making progress toward returning in Week 2, Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Monday.
Kelce hurt the knee in practice two days before the Chiefs’ 21-20 loss to the Detroit Lions on Thursday Night Football. Kelce was ruled inactive for the game.
“Trav is getting better,” Reid said. “He’s progressing. We’ll see how he does the rest of today and tomorrow. We’ll go from there.”
The Chiefs play at the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.
The Chiefs missed their four-time All Pro tight end on a night when Patrick Mahomes completed 21 of 39 passes. His receiving targets combined for seven drops.
Reid said the team remains in communication with star defensive tackle Chris Jones, whose holdout during a contract dispute was on full display during the opening game. Jones attended the game, sitting in a suite with his agents.
“I really don’t have much of an update for you there. There is communication going on, however. That’s a plus. Brett’s taking care of all that,” Reid said of Chiefs general manager Brett Veach.
