Chiefs’ injury report is out. Here’s tight end Travis Kelce’s designation for opener
Update: The Chiefs released a final decision on Kelce shortly before the NFL season opener.
Travis Kelce was listed as questionable Wednesday on the final injury report before Thursday night’s season opener against the Detroit Lions.
The Chiefs’ star tight end suffered a hyperextended knee during practice Tuesday. Chiefs coach Andy Reid said “we’ll see how it goes,” when asked about Kelce’s availability for Thursday night’s opening game at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
If Kelce misses the game, it would be his first absence since late in the 2021 season, when he missed one while on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
The Chiefs elevated tight end Matt Bushman and defensive tackle Matt Dickerson from their practice squad on Thursday.
About to begin his 11th NFL season, Kelce is a four time All-Pro and eight-time Pro Bowler. He’s coming off a year in which he set career highs in receptions (110) and touchdowns (12).
Seven other Chiefs players were listed on the injury report, but each was a full participant in practice on Wednesday. That includes cornerback L’Jarius Sneed and wide receiver Kadarius Toney, neither of whom played in a preseason game this summer.
