Chiefs announce 16 on practice squad. Here’s who’s on the list (and also who isn’t)

The Kansas City Chiefs announced the addition of 16 players to their practice squad Wednesday afternoon, though the list also had someone notable missing.

Quarterback Shane Buechele, who spent the last two seasons with the Chiefs and competed for the backup job this preseason, was not among the signees.

Chiefs general manager Brett Veach previously hinted that Buechele would not be returning to the team during a scheduled news conference earlier Wednesday afternoon.

“Obviously Shane is a good football player, and we loved having him around. Certainly gonna miss him,” Veach said. “And it was just one of those things where, at the end of the day — and we always say this all the guys — at the end of the day, make our jobs easy and put it on tape. And that’s where Blaine (Gabbert) came out and won the job. So it doesn’t make it any easier, because I think there was a lot of trust and belief in Shane Buechele.”

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Thursday morning that Buechele would be signing with the Buffalo Bills practice squad.

Chris Oladokun, KC’s No. 4 quarterback in the preseason, was added to the practice squad and would appear to be the team’s No. 3 option now in case of injuries.

The Chiefs brought back most of their other players who ended up on the wrong side of the roster bubble.

That includes running backs Deneric Prince and La’Mical Perine, tight end Matt Bushman, offensive lineman Darian Kinnard and defensive tackle Danny Shelton.

The Chiefs also kept Chukwuebuka Godrick — an international pathway program player — on the practice squad. He’s considered a practice-squad exception, meaning the Chiefs can keep 17 instead of the typical NFL limit of 16.

There could be changes and additions to come. The Star’s Sam McDowell reports that the Chiefs will be signing tight end Gerrit Prince to their practice squad. Prince, a Shawnee Mission Northwest graduate, was with Jacksonville in the preseason.

Here’s a look at the 16 players the Chiefs announced to their practice squad Wednesday.
