Kansas City Chiefs receiver John Ross, a former first-round NFL Draft pick, retires

The Chiefs have placed wide receiver John Ross on the reserve/retired list, according to Wednesday’s NFL transaction wire.

Ross, a former first-round draft pick, signed a futures/reserve contract with the Chiefs in January. He last played for the New York Giants in 2021.

Ross was the ninth overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft, selected by the Cincinnati Bengals after an All-America career at Washington. The next player taken was Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes by the Chiefs.

Ross had run the fastest 40-yard dash time in the history of the NFL Combine: 4.22 seconds.

Ross played five NFL seasons with 62 career receptions for 957 yards and 12 touchdowns. His best season came with the Bengals in 2019, when he finished with 28 receptions for 506 yards.
