Who was that woman who sang national anthem at Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl rally?
Not much was missing from the Kansas City Chiefs celebration Wednesday. The team was there, three Super Bowl trophies and the cheerleaders. So were two performers who, unlike the governor of Missouri and the owner of the team, received no introduction.
Maybe someone figured they didn’t need one?
Kansas City rapper Tech N9ne said his name when he walked out. But the woman who sang the national anthem did not, leading some on social media to ask: Who was that?
Those people obviously did not watch Smithville native Casi Joy compete on the NBC talent show “The Voice” in 2017.
Or maybe they have never heard the country singer perform the anthem at a Chiefs game, which she has done frequently, or before a KC Currents soccer game.
After the Chiefs won the Super Bowl on Sunday, she posted a video on Instagram of her and husband, Bryan Lankford, watching the final seconds. She jumped up and down because she knew what was coming.
“I’m singing at the parade,” she yelled out, hugging her husband.
Joy, a graduate of Smithville High and Park University, captioned the video: “Me realizing I’m singing at the Chiefs Super Bowl parade! So proud to be from KC.”
