Here’s when full parade details will be released for KC Chiefs’ Super Bowl celebration
Update: The news conference for today’s announcement regarding parade details has been moved to Kansas City International Airport.
Full details of the parade route celebrating the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory will be officially announced Monday afternoon, the Kansas City Sports Commission announced shortly after the teams win.
The sports commission, along with the Kansas City Chiefs and city officials, will hold a news conference at 4 p.m. at Kansas City International Airport to announce the route as well as provide details about transportation and public safety.
The parade kicks off at noon Wednesday and will last about 1 1/2 hours. It will be followed by an hour-long rally that begins about 1:45 p.m. in front of Union Station and the National WWI Museum and Memorial’s north lawn.
“The Kansas City Chiefs continue to be a source of excitement, inspiration and celebration for Chiefs fans in Kansas City and around the nation,” Mayor Quinton Lucas said in a news release.
“We will cheer on the World Champion Kansas City Chiefs this Wednesday as our victory parade goes through downtown Kansas City,” the mayor continued. “I look forward to seeing Kansas Citians show our country, and the world, why Kansas City is a sports town like nowhere else.”
The parade and the upcoming NFL Draft will occur within a few weeks of each other and “is truly historic,” Kathy Nelson, president and CEO of the Kansas City Sports Commission and Visit KC, said in the release.
“Kansas City continues to show up for our professional teams and I have no doubt Wednesday’s parade will be another memorable milestone for our city,” she said.
Fans were reminded that the celebration is a family-friendly event and public consumption of alcohol is prohibited. Fans are urged to travel light and not to bring bags or backpacks.
