Chiefs prep for regular-season finale without Sneed. Here’s the latest from practice

The Chiefs began preparations for Week 18’s regular-season finale against the Raiders, scheduled for Saturday in Las Vegas, without a defensive starter.

Cornerback L’Jarius Sneed was not spotted on the field during the brief portion of Tuesday’s practice that was open to media.

The Chiefs did not hold their previously scheduled Tuesday media availability with coach Andy Reid out of respect for injured Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin, who suffered cardiac arrest during Monday night’s Bills-Bengals game in Cincinnati and remained in critical condition Tuesday.

Sneed suffered a hip injury against the Denver Broncos on Sunday after intercepting a Russell Wilson pass during the Chiefs’ 27-24 win. He did not finish the Week 17 game.

If Sneed can’t play Saturday, the Chiefs will likely rely on all-rookie cornerback group consisting of Trent McDuffie, Jaylen Watson and Joshua Williams.

As for other players attempting to return from Week 17 injuries, left guard Joe Thuney (ankle) and rookie wide receiver Skyy Moore (hand) were observed on the practice field Tuesday.

Thuney, who re-injured his right ankle in Week 17, participated in the stretching and conditioning phase of practice, while Moore appeared to stand off to the side, watching teammates field punts.

The Chiefs later in the afternoon designated Thuney as a limited participant and Moore as not practicing. The Chiefs also listed linebacker Nick Bolton (rib) as practicing fully.

Wide receiver Mecole Hardman was spotted on the practice field going through stretching and conditioning.

The Chiefs designated Hardman, who remains on reserve/injured list with an abdominal injury, as “return to practice” on Dec. 14. The designation opened a 21-day evaluation period, and the Chiefs must decide by Wednesday whether to activate him to their 53-player roster or leave him on the reserve/injured list.
