Status for Chiefs’ Kadarius Toney to be determined ‘day by day,’ Andy Reid says
The Chiefs enter Week 15 without any significant injuries.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid said “everybody” will practice Wednesday ahead of Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium.
This mean that wide receiver Kadarius Toney (hamstring) will continue to work in some capacity.
Reid sounded optimistic that Toney is getting closer to returning to live action after the wide receiver participated in three limited practices last week.
“He had a little bit of a ramp up last week, which was good,” Reid said. “He came out of that feeling pretty good. We’ll see how he does this week and make a decision down the road here, so take it day by day.”
Toney, who the Chiefs acquired via trade with the New York Giants during a Week 8 bye, has missed three straight games with a hamstring injury.
Before suffering the injury in Week 11, Toney appeared in three games with one start and totaled six catches for 69 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 33 yards on two carries.
Toney’s absence has been especially felt on special teams, where he assumed the primary punt returner role from rookie wide receiver Skyy Moore. When healthy, Toney will be the primary punt returner.
The Chiefs later designated Toney and rookie defensive back Nazeeh Johnson (hamstring) as limited participants in practice.
The following players practiced fully:
- QB Patrick Mahomes (right hand)
- WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (toe)
- LB Nick Bolton (groin)
- S Deon Bush (elbow)
- RB Isiah Pacheco (shoulder, quad)
- OL Lucas Niang (knee)
- S Justin Reid (shoulder)
- G Trey Smith (knee)
- CB L’Jarius Sneed (calf)
- CB Jaylen Watson (hand)
