Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes named the AFC Offensive Player of Month for November

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes capped off November with a league award.

The NFL on Thursday announced that Mahomes was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Month.

Mahomes was on top of his game in November, passing for 1,426 yards and nine touchdowns with a 99.1 rating and averaging 356.5 yards passing over four games, which the Chiefs won. The Chiefs’ signal-caller also hurt opponents with his legs, rushing for 161 yards rushing and a touchdown in 21 carries.

The Chiefs’ star quarterback also established another new NFL milestone in November.

With four games of at least 300 yards passing the past month, Mahomes now has 38 such career games in his first six seasons. The effort surpassed Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino (37 games) for the most such games by a player in his first seven seasons.

Thursday’s announcement represented the fifth AFC Offensive Player of the Month award for Mahomes to place him in elite company. He is now tied with former New Orleans Saints signal-caller Drew Brees for the fourth-most by a quarterback since 2000. Only Tom Brady (11), Aaron Rodgers (10) and Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning (eight) have more in that span.

Mahomes, who is making a case for the NFL MVP award, has now been recognized three times by the league in the 2022 regular season. He previously won the AFC Offensive Player of the Week award in Week 1 and Week 4.

With Mahomes under center, the Chiefs are 9-2 with a three-game lead in the AFC West entering Week 13’s showdown against the Cincinnati Bengals.
