Chiefs’ JuJu Smith-Schuster ruled out for Sunday Night Football at Los Angeles Chargers

The Chiefs will be missing a pair of key players for Sunday’s Week 11 game in L.A.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Friday that wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (concussion) and cornerback Chris Lammons (concussion) are out for Sunday night’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium.

“They’re both a little different, but they are close,” Reid said. “We’ll just see how they do this next week.”

Smith-Schuster, whose 46 catches for 615 yards rank second on the Chiefs’ offense, remains in the NFL’s mandated five-step concussion protocol after suffering the injury in Week 10. His absence in addition to Mecole Hardman (abdomen) landing on injured reserve, shakes up the Chiefs’ wide receiver corps for Sunday.

Without Smith-Schuster and Hardman, the Chiefs will rely on Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Kadarius Toney, Justin Watson and rookie Skyy Moore. Valdes-Scantling, who has been dealing with an illness this week, put in a limited practice Thursday, but Reid expects the wide receiver to play.

“Everybody else is up and ready to go,” Reid said.

Lammons’ absence affects not just depth at cornerback, but mostly special teams, where he was a core contributor.

The Chiefs are likely to elevate receiver Marcus Kemp, and perhaps safety Ugo Amadi, from their practice squad for help on special teams.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs will officially have defensive end Frank Clark, who recently returned from a two-game suspension, available and active against the Chargers.

Clark was reinstated to the active 53-player roster from the commissioner’s exempt list as the corresponding move to Hardman’s placement on injured reserve.
