Chiefs defensive end Frank Clark returns to work after serving 2-game NFL suspension

The Chiefs are on the way back to being 100% on the defensive line.

Defensive end Frank Clark returned to the practice field Wednesday after serving a two-game suspension for violating the NFL’s personal-conduct policy.

“Frank is back, which is a positive,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said.

The NFL on Monday removed Clark from the suspension list. He was given a roster exemption, meaning he does not yet officially count against the Chiefs’ 53-player roster.

Clark is allowed to practice ahead of Sunday night’s showdown against the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium, and the Chiefs must activate him by 3 p.m. Central on Saturday if they plan to use him in the game.

The veteran defensive end missed the Chiefs’ games against the Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars, both wins.

During Clark’s absence, the Chiefs relied on veteran Carlos Dunlap to hold down the right defensive end spot opposite rookie end George Karlaftis. Dunlap responded with two sacks during that span, including his 100th career sack in Sunday’s win over the Jaguars.

Clark should resume his starting role once he’s officially activated to the 53-player roster.
