Will Davante Adams face criminal penalty for push of bystander after Chiefs’ victory?
Update: Kansas City police on Tuesday said they were investigating after the photographer pushed at the game filed a report saying he was injured. That story is posted here.
After Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams was seen on live television pushing a cameraman to the ground in the wake of the Chiefs’ come-from-behind victory at Arrowhead Stadium Monday night, he faces potential punishment from the National Football League.
But it remained unclear immediately after the game whether Adams may be held to any sort of criminal penalty for the act. The Star reached out to Kansas City police to see whether a report had been filed in that regard but did not immediately hear back.
Adams caught three passes for a total of 124 yards and got into the end zone twice Monday night. During the later stages of the game, he was clearly frustrated by a play that resulted in an incomplete pass, and appeared to take out his frustrations on a man working just off the field.
After the shove, the cameraman was seen falling backward onto the ground. He did not appear to be injured.
Arrowhead has seen its share of assaults over the years, more often limited to the stands. In some cases, fistfights have resulted in low-level citations handled through the municipal court system that may result in a fine.
After the game, Adams publicly apologized for the incident. But Adams apparently had not spoken with the man he pushed directly.
“Sorry to the guy I pushed over after the game,” Adams said on Twitter. “Obviously very frustrated at the way the game ended and when he ran infront of me as I exited that was my reaction and I felt horrible immediately. Thats not me..MY APOLOGIES man hope you see this.”
