Harrison Butker, Ronald Jones among KC Chiefs’ inactive players vs. Chargers in Week 2
The Chiefs are without kicker Harrison Butker for Thursday night’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
Butker, who suffered a left ankle sprain in Week 1, is among the Chiefs’ seven inactive players for the game. The Chiefs declared their kicker as out on Wednesday’s injury report, but Thursday’s inactive list makes it official that he will not dress.
To bolster the kicker position, the Chiefs on Thursday afternoon elevated Matt Ammendola from the practice squad. Ammendola, who has made 13 of 19 field goals in his career, joined the Chiefs’ practice squad on Tuesday in the wake of Butker’s injury.
The Chiefs also elevated cornerback Dicaprio Bootle from the practice squad for Thursday night’s game. Bootle, who spent time on the Chiefs’ practice squad in 2021, provides depth, which represents a need at the defensive backs position group because rookie cornerback Trent McDuffie (hamstring) landed on injured reserve earlier in the week.
Kansas City’s remaining inactives are quarterback Shane Buechele, running back Ronald Jones, rookie offensive lineman Darian Kinnard, defensive end Joshua Kaindoh, defensive end Malik Herring and linebacker Jack Cochrane.
With Jones not playing for a second straight game, the Chiefs will continue to rely on Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Jerick McKinnon and rookie Isiah Pacheco in the backfield along with fullback Michael Burton.
Starting right guard Trey Smith, who entered the game as questionable with an ankle injury, is active.
For the Chargers, wide receiver Keenan Allen (hamstring), tight end Donald Parham (hamstring), quarterback Easton Stick, running back Isaiah Spiller, offensive lineman Brenden Jamies, defensive lineman Christian Covington and safety J.T. Woods are inactive.
