Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes had himself a game in a 44-21 win over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1.

And the NFL recognized his performance.

Mahomes was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Wednesday morning. He completed 30 of 39 passes for 360 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions for a 144.2 passer rating. The output represented the most passing yards, touchdown passes and highest passer rating of any quarterback in Week 1.

Sunday also marked Mahomes’ sixth-career game with at least five touchdown passes, and his 360 yards passing extended a franchise-record 32nd game with 300 or more yards passing.

Not bad at all for a quarterback that Pro Football Focus somehow graded as the eighth-best quarterback performance in Week 1.

Mahomes now has been named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week eight times in his career. He is also tied with Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker Derrick Thomas for the most such weekly awards in Chiefs history.
