Running back Ronald Jones headlines KC Chiefs’ list of inactives vs. Arizona Cardinals
Chiefs running back Ronald Jones played his way onto the initial 53-player roster with a strong performance in the preseason finale.
But the veteran rusher will need to wait to see his first regular-season action in a Chiefs uniform.
The Chiefs listed Jones among six players as inactive for Sunday’s season opener against the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium.
With Jones not playing, the Chiefs will go with Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Jerick McKinnon and rookie Isiah Pacheco in the backfield along with fullback Michael Burton. Pacheco is also expected to be the Chiefs’ primary kickoff returner.
Backup quarterback Shane Buechele, rookie offensive lineman Darian Kinnard, defensive end Joshua Kaindoh, defensive end Malik Herring and wide receiver Daurice Fountain are the remaining Chiefs’ inactives.
Even with two pass rushers not dressed for Sunday’s game, the Chiefs are covered at defensive end with Frank Clark, Mike Danna, Carlos Dunlap and rookie George Karlaftis.
Linebacker Elijah Lee, who was elevated Saturday from the practice squad, will provide depth at his position group and contribute on special teams.
For the Cardinals, wide receiver Rondale Moore, defensive end J.J. Watt, cornerback Trayvon Mullen, running back Keaontay Ingram, offensive lineman Justin Pugh, tight end Trey McBride and linebacker Myjai Sanders are inactive.
