Len Dawson and Patrick Mahomes are part of an exclusive group of players in NFL history.
Just 48 players have ever been named a Super Bowl MVP, and that list includes Dawson and Mahomes.
Dawson helped the Chiefs beat the Minnesota Vikings 23-7 in Super Bowl IV in 1970, and 50 years later Mahomes and the Chiefs won Super Bowl LIV by beating the San Francisco 49ers 31-20.
The quarterbacks are two of the greatest Chiefs players of all-time and would be on a Mount Rushmore of the best Kansas City athletes.
Mahomes spoke earlier this month to The Star’s Vahe Gregorian about Dawson’s legacy with the Chiefs.
After Dawson’s family announced his death Wednesday, Mahomes wrote a special message on Twitter, joining Chiefs fans who have shared their memories and condolences.
“RIP to the legend Len Dawson,” Mahomes wrote. “The legacy and impact you made on Kansas City will live on forever. Prayers to his family”
That meme of Mahomes and Dawson is a favorite among Chiefs fans.
