NFL releases time, date for Kansas City Chiefs’ game against Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Mike North, the NFL’s vice president of broadcasting and scheduling, said in a podcast last month that a team theoretically could play eight of its 17 regular-season games in prime time.
The Kansas City Chiefs may not play that often under the lights, but we know at least two of their 2022 games are scheduled in prime time.
Although the full Chiefs schedule is coming later on Thursday, the NFL announced on “Good Morning Football” the details of Kansas City’s game at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
It will be held Oct. 2 at 7:20 p.m. at Raymond James Stadium. That’s a “Sunday Night Football” matchup, so it’ll be on NBC (Ch. 41 in KC).
The Chiefs already know they’ll face the Chargers at Arrowhead Stadium in Week 2’s “Thursday Night Football” game on Amazon Prime.
The Super Bowl LV matchup in Week 4 will feature two of the NFL’s best quarterbacks: the Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes and one-time retiree/future Fox Sports broadcaster Tom Brady of the Buccaneers.
“I think that there’s a revenge factor here,” Peter Schrager said on “Good Morning Football.” “That was Patrick Mahomes’ worst game as an NFL player and I think it was also the team’s worst outing on a big stage.”
Schrager’s co-host Kyle Brandt noted Mahomes’ 2-3 record against Brady and how this may be the last time they ever face off.
“The next time we see Brady in the same stadium as Mahomes he may be calling a game,” Brandt said.
More prime time?
Danny Parkins of 670 The Score in Chicago tweeted information on what he says are four other games for the Chiefs. Three would be on prime time, says Parkins, the former KCSP (610 AM) host.
The opener
The Chiefs announced they will face the Cardinals in Phoenix in Week 1 of the 2022 NFL season.
