NFL Draft primer for Chiefs fans: When Kansas City picks, TV, streaming, players to watch

It’s not exactly a burning question heading into this week’s NFL Draft, but there are numerous ways the first round could go for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Some see the Chiefs as a candidate to trade up in the draft, stand pat with their two first-round picks or trade one of those picks and move down.

For Chiefs fans who plan to watch some or all of the NFL Draft, here’s a quick primer on what you need to know before the very first pick is announced.

Where is the 2022 NFL Draft being held?

This year’s festivities will take place in Las Vegas, and the picks will be announced behind the High Roller at The LINQ, which is the Ferris wheel visible on the Vegas Strip.

When is the NFL Draft and what channel is it on?

The draft will be held over three days starting with Thursday’s first round, which will air on KMBC (Ch. 9 in Kansas City), the NFL Network, ESPN and ESPN Deportes. Here is when each round begins.

Thursday at 7 p.m.: Round 1

Friday at 6 p.m.: Rounds 2 and 3

Saturday at 11 a.m.: Rounds 4 through 7

What picks do the Kansas City Chiefs have in the 2022 NFL Draft?

The Chiefs have a dozen overall picks, including two in each of the first four rounds Here is when they will be making their selections.

First round: Nos. 29 and 30

Second round: Nos. 50 and 62

Third round: Nos. 94 and 103

Fourth round: Nos. 121 and 135

Fifth round: No selections

Sixth round: No selections

Seventh round: Nos. 233, 243, 251 and 259

Players to watch for Chiefs fans

Chiefs general manager Brett Veach has identified defensive line as an area that he wants to upgrade this offseason, and the team has yet to make a significant move to improve the position. The Chiefs also likely will look for a wide receiver and a cornerback earlier rather than later in the draft.

The Star’s Herbie Teope has put together four mock Chiefs drafts, and here are players at those three positions that he believes could be on the Chiefs’ radar.

Cornerback: Washinton’s Kyler Gordon, Auburn’s Roger McCreary, Kaiir Elam, Florida, Clemson’s Andrew Booth and Washington’s Trent McDuffie.

Defensive end: Minnesota’s Boye Mafe, Purdue’s George Karlaftis, South Carolina’s Kingsley Enagbare, Penn State’s Arnold Ebiketie and Michigan’s David Ojabo.

Wide receiver: Alabama’s Jameson Williams, Ohio State’s Chris Olave, Western Michigan’s Skyy Moore, Arkansas’ Treylon Burks, Georgia’s George Pickens and Penn State’s Jahan Dotson.
