The free-agent market has settled since the start of the NFL’s new calendar year on March 16.

Former Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu remains available to any team, but news about the three-time All-Pro’s destination for the 2022 season had been quiet.

That changed Tuesday morning.

Mathieu, one of the top free agents in the league, is visiting his hometown New Orleans Saints while in New Orleans with family, the NFL Network reported.

The NFL Network points out “nothing is imminent” between the Saints and Mathieu. But the event is notable because it marks Mathieu’s first known visit with a team this offseason.

The Chiefs in early March expressed interest in bringing back Mathieu, who turns 30 on May 13, before signing safety Justin Reid to a three-year deal.

Mathieu spent three seasons in Kansas City and was the heart and soul of the Chiefs’ defense during that time. He won a Super Bowl and appeared in 47 regular-season games, all starts, totaling 213 tackles, 13 interceptions, 27 passes defensed, three sacks, six quarterback hits and two defensive touchdowns.

He was a member of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LIV-winning team and earned first-team All-Pro selections in 2019 and 2020, as well as Pro Bowl nods in 2020 and 2021.

In other news, the Chiefs agreed to terms on a one-year deal with defensive tackle Taylor Stallworth, his agent, Brett Tessler, announced on Twitter.

The 6-foot-2, 293-pound Stallworth previously spent time with the Indianapolis Colts (2020-21) and New Orleans Saints (2018-19), serving mostly in a backup and rotational role. He has appeared in 50 career games with two starts, totaling 44 tackles and 4.5 sacks.

Taylor joins a defensive linemen group currently consisting of Chris Jones, Derrick Nnadi, Khalen Saunders, Tershawn Wharton, Cortez Broughton, Lorenzo Neal Jr. and Darius Stills.
