Remembering 5 impact moments by Tyreek Hill in a Chiefs uniform as he leaves for Miami
The Chiefs bid farewell to Tyreek Hill Wednesday, trading the star receiver to the Miami Dolphins.
He’ll be remembered in Kansas City for his incredible speed — remember when he chased down running back and teammate Damien Williams on Williams’ long touchdown run? — as well as his end zone celebrations and big games.
He became one of the most clutch performers in Chiefs history. Here is a list of five impact plays by the All-Pro wide receiver.
1. Jet Chip Wasp
Feb. 2, 2020
The Chiefs trailed the San Francisco 49ers 20-10 and faced a third-and-15 from their 35 with 7:13 remaining. The next play — Jet Chip Wasp — will live on forever in Kansas City and NFL lore. Patrick Mahomes completed a 44-yard pass to Hill, who had broken free. This became the turning point in a three-touchdown blitz to finish the game and give the Chiefs a Super Bowl victory in Miami.
2. Peace Out
Jan. 22, 2022
In what may be the wildest game — and quarter — in NFL playoff history, Hill delivered the highlight moment. The Chiefs trailed the Buffalo Bills 29-26 with 1:13 remaining in the fourth quarter of the Divisional Round game at Arrowhead Stadium. From the left side, Hill cut to the middle of the field and grabbed a Mahomes pass at midfield. He sprinted past four defenders and flashed the peace sign as he approached the end zone. Somehow, Hill wasn’t flagged for the gesture. The Chiefs prevailed in overtime.
3. Henne-one’s favorite target
Jan. 17, 2021
The Chiefs had to play most of the second half of this 2020 Divisional Round game against the Cleveland Browns without Mahomes, who had suffered a head injury. To clinch the game, reserve Chad Henne had to pick up 1 yard on fourth down from the Chiefs’ 49 with about 80 seconds remaining. Henne rolled right and whistled a strike to Hill. Hill slashed toward the sideline and his 5-yard gain sealed the win.
4. Fourth-and-9 magic
Dec. 11, 2018
The Chiefs trailed the Baltimore Ravens 24-17 and faced a fourth-and-9 from their 40 with 1:29 remaining. Mahomes was flushed right, and just before he went down he was able to fling a deep pass across his body. There was Hill, who somehow had wiggled open, on the reception for 48 yards. The Chiefs won in overtime.
5. Mahomes’ first
Sept. 9, 2018
Mahomes’ first touchdown pass was another of those Hill roadrunner moments. At the Los Angeles Chargers to open the 2018 season, Hill ran a slant from the right side, and Mahomes caught him in stride for a 57-yard score. The on-target throw and unnatural speed would make the Chiefs’ Mahomes-to-Hill connection one of the NFL’s most dangerous passing game tandems.
