The Chiefs are riding an eight-game winning streak behind their star quarterback and some stellar defense.

The NFL on Thursday recognized the former by selecting Patrick Mahomes as the AFC Offensive Player of the Month for December.

After a slow start to the 2021 campaign, Mahomes rebounded in the second half of the season and put together a magnificent December.

He totaled 1,110 yards passing yards and nine touchdowns (eight passing, one rushing) with two interceptions in four games, averaging 277.5 yards per contest in that span. He completed 68.5% of his passes and posted a 108.8 passer rating.

With Mahomes leading the charge on offense, the Chiefs averaged 35 points in their four December wins en route to a sixth straight AFC West title.

Thursday’s announcement marks Mahomes’ fourth career AFC Offensive Player of the Month award, the most all-time by a Chiefs player. He previously won it in November 2020, September 2019 and September 2018.

Mahomes also becomes the only quarterback to earn a Player of the Month award in each of the past four seasons. He’s one of three active signal-callers with at least four career Offensive Player of the Month awards, joining Tom Brady (11) and Aaron Rodgers (10).
