KC Chiefs are without special teams standout Chris Lammons vs. Raiders in Week 14

The Chiefs will be missing a key special teams contributor this weekend.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Friday that cornerback Chris Lammons (ankle) will not play in Sunday afternoon’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders at Arrowhead Stadium.

Lammons, a standout gunner on special teams, suffered a left high-ankle sprain in the first half of last weekend’s win over the Denver Broncos. He missed all three days of practice this week.

Chiefs special teams coordinator Dave Toub said Thursday he would look at options on the active roster and practice squad if Lammons couldn’t play. Toub mentioned practice squad cornerbacks Josh Jackson and Dicaprio Bootle as possibilities.

Reid said everyone else on the Chiefs’ active roster should be “ready to roll” against the Raiders, and that includes cornerback Rashad Fenton (knee) and rookie tackle Lucas Niang (ribs).

Whether the two will actually play or be declared inactive for the game remains to be determined.

“They both worked,” Reid said of Niang and Fenton. “Those are day-to-day things. They worked today, though, and so that was a plus.

“We’ll just see how that situates itself here when I get with (head athletic trainer) Rick (Burkholder) and (general manager Brett) Veach, and we’ll just see where we’re at.”

Niang, injured in Week 9, seeks to return to action after missing three straight games. If Niang isn’t ready, Andrew Wylie is in line to draw a fourth consecutive start at right tackle.

Fenton, who suffered his knee injury in Week 11, was inactive for last Sunday’s victory over the Broncos.

The Chiefs later designated Niang and Fenton as questionable on the official injury report after both players put in a limited practice for a third straight day.

For Las Vegas, the team ruled out tight end Darren Waller (knee, back), defensive end Carl Nassib (knee) and linebacker Patrick Onwuasor (hamstring), while linebacker Denzel Perryman (ankle) is doubtful, Raiders beat writer Tashan Reed of The Athletic tweeted.
