It’s always interesting to hear what those outside the market think of the Chiefs. In this case, former coach Tony Dungy and Super Bowl MVP quarterback Drew Brees, on the NBC’s Sunday Night Football’s pregame show, took aim at the Chiefs offense after their 13-7 victory over the Green Bay Packers.

“You always throw around the term ‘winning ugly,’” Dungy said. “Well this was the definition of an ugly win ... No rhythm on offense, Patrick Mahomes’ off-target throws. It didn’t seem like he was reading the coverages, it just didn’t look like this offense was in sync. We are used to seeing Kansas City score, and they were having trouble making first downs.”

All true. The Chiefs were held to their lowest totals in yards (237) and passing yards (160) since Mahomes became a starter in 2018.

“You’re waiting for them to turn it on and you keep waiting, and they haven’t done it yet,” Brees said. “It just seems like there are so many things missing in this offense.”

But not much is missing from the attack that carried the team two a pair of Super Bowl appearances, winning Super Bowl LIV. Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill, Mecole Hardman and other weapons are there. It’s just not happening for the team that has scored 36 points in its past three games.

The Chiefs get the Sunday Night Football treatment this week at the Las Vegas Raiders, coming off a 23-16 loss at the New York Giants.
