With Sunday’s victory over Packers, Kansas City Chiefs reached this franchise milestone
With their 13-7 victory over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, the Chiefs recorded the 500th victory in their franchise history.
In the franchise’s first three seasons, the team was based in Dallas and known as the Texans. They’ve been in Kansas City since the 1963 season.
Among the eight original AFL franchises, the Chiefs’ victory total ranks second.
Another team joined the pro football ranks in 1960, the year the AFL was founded by the late Lamar Hunt and his colleagues. And that NFL team, the Dallas Cowboys, has 531 victories since then.
Also, Chiefs coach Andy Reid captured the 226th regular season victory of his career. That matches Packers legend Curly Lambeau for fifth all time among NFL coaches. Next up on the list: Tom Landry with 250 victories.
The victory totals of original AFL teams, including this year:
524: Patriots
500: Chiefs/Texans
493: Broncos
486: Raiders
464: Chargers
457: Titans/Oilers (does not include Sunday night game)
443: Bills
412: Jets/Titans
