Still resting, Kansas City Chiefs’ Chris Jones misses second straight day of practice

The Chiefs were missing a key player during Thursday’s practice ahead of Sunday night’s prime-time game against the Buffalo Bills at Arrowhead Stadium.

Defensive tackle Chris Jones (wrist) did not go through on-field work Thursday. He also missed Wednesday’s practice, an absence that coach Andy Reid indicated was about getting Jones some rest.

Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo on Thursday reiterated that resting Jones was the goal.

“We want all our players healthy, especially our good ones,” Spagnuolo said. “... We’ll just keep our fingers crossed, and hopefully we can get everybody back to the way we know they can play — and that helps the whole unit get back to a way we know we can play.”

Jones has dealt with the wrist injury since Week 3 and had been limited in some practices over the past two weeks. He has not missed playing time, however, recording seven tackles, two sacks and four quarterback hits.

Safety Armani Watts, who was absent Wednesday with an illness, was able to practice Thursday. Watts is a core special teams contributor.

Defensive end Frank Clark (hamstring), cornerback Charvarius Ward (quad) and cornerback Rashad Fenton (concussion protocol) also practiced for the second straight day.

Clark has missed three of the Chiefs’ four regular-season games, while Ward has missed the past two. Fenton hasn’t played since suffering a concussion in Week 3 against the Chargers.

The Chiefs later Thursday listed Clark, Ward, Fenton, Watts, wide receiver Tyreek Hill (knee), tackle Orlando Brown Jr. (groin) and cornerback Deandre Baker (quad) as full participants in practice session.

For the Bills, defensive end Mario Addison and wide receiver Cole Beasley returned to a full practice after a rest day on Wednesday. Wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders was rested Thursday.
