Chiefs

Streaking Chiefs have won at friendly, hostile, neutral sites. Can they beat Patriots?

The Chiefs take a 12-game winning streak into Monday’s home contest against New England, and the KC victories separate neatly by location: Six at home, four on the road and two at neutral sites. The latter group includes last season’s game against the Chargers in Mexico City and the Super Bowl.

The streak is a team record when factoring in playoffs. The team’s regular-season record streak is 11 in 2015-16 and these Chiefs of 2019-20 have won nine straight. The longest NFL regular-season winning streak is 23, by the Peyton Manning-led Colts of 2008-09.

Kickoff: 6:05 p.m. Monday at Arrowhead Stadium

Blair Kerkhoff’s prediction: Chiefs 24-20

In the Andy Reid era in Kansas City, the Chiefs and Patriots have split six meetings with New England winning the two most important contests, playoff games after the 2015 and 2018 seasons. In regular-season meetings, the Chiefs have won by 27, 15 and seven, and lost by a field goal.

It’s a match of two great NFL minds, Reid and Bill Belichick, the previous two Super Bowl champion coaches and the NFL’s top active winning coaches.

Brian Hoyer likely starts at QB for Cam Newton, out because of COVID-19. Patrick Mahomes is coming off one of his best games. Look for the Chiefs to remain undefeated but it won’t be easy against a stout New England defense.
