Chiefs’ Chris Jones is limited but Okafor returns to practice ahead of Patriots game
The Chiefs appeared in relatively good shape Wednesday on the health front for their first practice ahead of Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots at Arrowhead Stadium.
Defensive tackle Chris Jones, who suffered a tweaked groin two days ago against the Baltimore Ravens, practiced in a limited fashion.
A limited practice typically signals a player went through the stretching and individual drills portion of practice, not team-related drills. He has two more practices to go, but Jones’ presence on the field provides optimism for his availability against the Patriots.
The Chiefs also welcomed back defensive end Alex Okafor, who put in a limited practice. Wednesday marked the first time Okafor has put in on-field work since he suffered a hamstring injury in the season opener.
Cornerback Charvarius Ward (hand) put in a full practice, a positive sign he is recovered from a fractured hand suffered in the season opener. The Chiefs need a healthy Ward when considering rookie L’Jarius Sneed landed on injured reserve with a broken collarbone and Bashaud Breeland has one more game to serve on his four-game suspension.
Starting right guard Andrew Wylie, who was inactive in Week 3 because of a stomach illness, practiced fully.
The Chiefs listed wide receiver Tyreek Hill (heel), right tackle Mitchell Schwartz (ankle), center Austin Reiter (knee), safety Juan Thornhill (knee) and defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi (ankle) as full participants.
For the Patriots, defensive back Cody Davis (ribs) did not practice.
Wide receiver Julian Edelman (knee), running back Sony Michel (quad), offensive tackle Isaiah Wynn (calf) and defensive lineman Adam Butler (shoulder) were limited.
