The Chiefs? Underdogs? Here’s what Vegas odds say about their matchup with the Ravens
When the Chiefs arrive in Baltimore for Monday Night Football, they will embrace an abnormal role.
Underdogs.
For the first time in their last nine games dating back to last season, the Chiefs will play a football game in which their opponent is favored to win. The Ravens are favored by 3 1/2 points against the Chiefs on Monday, the consensus line on various sportsbooks.
The Chiefs have been favored in both games this season, and they were favored all three playoff games last year and the final three regular season games of 2019. They last took on the underdog moniker on Dec. 8 with a trip to New England. (They won that game, by the way.)
At Monday’s line, though, the Chiefs are the preferred options among bettors, with 61% of the wagers being placed on the underdog, according to Oddschecker.
That spread is the equivalent to giving the Chiefs a 36.36 chance to win the game, per Oddschecker.
The oddsmakers see a high-scoring game Monday. The over/under is 55 total points, the third highest number among the 16 NFL contests. The Seattle-Dallas matchup sits at 57.
The Chiefs are 1-1 against the spread this season after failing to cover last week’s 8 1/2-point line against the Chargers, a game they won but only by a field goal. That matchup also failed to reach the over, making the Chiefs 1-1 on over/under lines.
It’s early — only two weeks into the season — but nobody has been a more sure bet against the spread this season than the Ravens. They’re 2-0, covering the line by an average of 17 points. Both of their matchups, however, have failed to hit the over.
A sneak peek of next week: The Chiefs are favored 7 1/2 points at home against the Patriots in Week 4. That number, of course, is subject to change after the completion of Monday’s game in Baltimore.
