Hey, it’s Marcus Peters: Keep an eye on the former Chief under the Monday night lights
The AFC favorites tangle on Monday Night Football when the Chiefs visit the Ravens, Baltimore’s first Monday game home game in three years and second since 2008.
The Chiefs are a 3 1/2-point underdog to a Ravens team that has won 14 straight regular-season games. Here are some players would could come up big — besides quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson, of course.
Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu
Mathieu has been needed even more than usual in the first two weeks of the season because of personnel issues in the Chiefs’ secondary. He came up with a touchdown-saving pass deflection in last week’s victory over the Chargers and recorded a season-best three deflections when these teams met last year. He’ll be asked to come up big against Baltimore’s punishing ground game.
Chiefs receiver Mecole Hardman
Hardman got into the end zone against the Chargers on a two-point conversion. The Chiefs tried to turn him loose in the running game last week, but his lone attempt gained just three yards. The speedy Hardman is due for a big play like his 83-yard touchdown grab against the Ravens last year ... and what better week for a breakout?
Ravens cornerback Marcus Peters
Few former teammates remain on the Chiefs’ roster from Peters’ three seasons in KC (2015-17). But he got to work against Patrick Mahomes in practice in his final year and has met the Chiefs once in a different uniform, while he was playing for the L.A. Rams in 2018. Peters had one of his 28 interceptions in that game. That total is the most in football since 2015. Peters loves going against the best — he picked off Deshaun Watson last week and had a pick-six against the Seahawks’ Russell Wilson last season
Ravens running back Mark Ingram
Quite the running back rotation in Baltimore, with Ingram, Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins, along with the dangerous Jackson at QB. Ingram, a three-time Pro Bowler, is the veteran, but the Ravens will always have fresh legs with this group. After a slow first half against the Texans last week, Baltimore dominated on the ground in the second half, picking up 186 of its 230 rushing yards for the game.
