With Charvarius Ward inactive, rookie BoPete Keyes to see first action of 2020 season
The Chiefs’ list of inactive players against the Los Angeles Chargers doesn’t include any major surprises.
Cornerback Charvarius Ward (hand), defensive end Alex Okafor (hamstring), defensive end Demone Harris, offensive lineman Yasir Durant and tight end Ricky Seals-Jones did not dress for the game.
The Chiefs previously ruled out Ward and Okafor on Friday’s injury report.
With Ward out, rookie cornerback BoPete Keyes is active and will see his first action of the 2020 regular season and being a healthy scratch in Week 1. Keyes provides depth behind cornerbacks Rashad Fenton, Antonio Hamilton and rookie L’Jarius Sneed.
Defensive end Taco Charlton, who was inactive in Week 1, was dressed for Sunday’s game, likely destined for a rotational role behind Frank Clark and Tanoh Kpassagnon given Okafor’s absence.
Harris, Durant and Seals-Jones were healthy inactives for a second straight game.
Defensive tackle Braxton Hoyett, who was elevated Saturday to the active roster after the Chiefs placed Khalen Saunders (elbow) on injured reserve, dressed for Sunday’s game.
Teams around the league are allowed to dress 48 players for game day in 2020, a change of 46 from past seasons and why the Chiefs had just five inactive players compared to the normal seven in recent years.
Eight of the dressed players, however, must be offensive linemen. The Chiefs were in compliance with Mitchell Schwartz, Eric Fisher, Austin Reiter, Kelechi Osemeli, Andrew Wylie, Mike Remmers, Nick Allegretti and Daniel Kilgore active.
