Chiefs’ Travis Kelce limited in Monday’s practice; Juan Thornhill practices fully
For the most part, the Chiefs appear in good shape ahead of Thursday night’s season opener against the Houston Texans at Arrowhead Stadium.
The Chiefs’ first official injury report of the season showed tight end Travis Kelce (knee) and defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi (ankle) as limited in Monday’s practice.
The limited designations signal that both players participated in the stretching and individual position drills portion of practice, but not full team drills. There will be a better indication of Kelce’s and Nnadi’s status for Thursday on Tuesday injury report, which carries game designations of either doubtful or questionable as applicable.
Meanwhile, the Chiefs have good news from Monday’s practice.
Free safety Juan Thornhill was listed as a full participant, signaling he has displayed no signs of a setback on his surgically repaired knee. The second-year safety suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament during the 2019 regular-season finale and began training camp on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.
After Thornhill came off the PUP list during camp, the Chiefs eased him in the action during select 7-on-7 and 9-on-7 team drills. The Chiefs then capped off the final day of training camp by having Thornhill work with the first-team defense during 11-on-11 drills.
Barring a setback, Thornhill is on track to open the season with the starting unit.
The rest of the Chiefs’ injury report rounds out with running back Darrel Williams (hamstring), defensive end Alex Okafor (calf) and tight end Deon Yelder (groin) listed as full participants.
