Fans in the stands.

The Chiefs were the first in the NFL to make that happen in a preseason practice over the weekend. It wasn’t the same as a training camp morning at Missouri Western in St. Joseph, where up to 5,000 would attend. But Chiefs players said they enjoyed having the energy of some 2,000 fans in the stands Saturday, and will when the team allows about 5,000 fans to watch again this Saturday.

But were those fans practicing team-required COVID-19 safety measures last Saturday? Several were shown on social media not wearing masks. They’ll get another chance this weekend: no to headdress (which are now banned officially per a new policy at Arrowhead), but masks are mandated.

Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid recently addressed the benefits of having fans in the stands and several other topics. You’ll hear those comments on this episode of SportsBeat KC, The Kansas City Star’s daily sports podcast that recently celebrated its one-year anniversary, with host Blair Kerkhoff.
