Chiefs

What the Vegas odds say about the Chiefs’ chances in every game for the 2020 season

The Chiefs’ first two seasons with Patrick Mahomes at quarterback have been quite fruitful.

Year Three? Should be even better.

That’s according to the oddsmakers from BetOnline, who have pegged the Chiefs as favorites in 14 of their 16 games after Thursday’s schedule release.

To put that into context, the Chiefs have never won 14 games in a single regular season. They were 13-3 three times (2003, 1997 and 1995). They’ve gone 12-4 each of the past two years.

It’s a bit ambitious. But the oddsmakers deem it achievable.

For now, the Chiefs are listed as underdogs just twice — a 2-point underdog in Baltimore in a Week 3 Monday Night Football matchup and a 1 1/2-point underdog in New Orleans in Week 15.

They’re not only favored in all eight of their home games, they’re overwhelming favored in each of them. The Chiefs are a double-digit favorite in seven of their eight home games, and they’re favored by more than a possession in all eight, per the BetOnline sheets. The smallest line inside Arrowhead Stadium comes when the New England Patriots arrive in Week 4 as 8 1/2-point underdogs.

Sounds dominant, right? It’s actually been topped.

By Baltimore.

The Ravens are favored in all 16 games this season, including that Week 3 game against the Chiefs. Home-field advantage undoubtedly sways the line — BetOnline has listed the home team as the favorite 64.8% of the time, with the road team favored 28.9% and the remaining 6.3% of the contests listed as a pick ‘em. In 16 of the 17 weeks, more home teams are favored than road teams.

Despite the game-by-game outcomes titling toward Baltimore, the Chiefs remain the betting favorite to win the Super Bowl, with 13-to-2 odds. The Ravens are a close second at 7-to-1, followed by the 49ers (10-to-1), Buccaneers (12-to-1) and Saints (14-to-1).

Those five teams, not coincidentally, enjoy the most games as betting favorites. Conversely, the Jaguars are listed as an underdog in all 16 of their 2020 games. The Bengals and Giants are favored in just one game each.
