Chiefs’ Chris Jones helping Special Olympics athletes during stay-at-home orders

The stay-at-home order has been a difficult adjustment for the more than 4,000 Special Olympics athletes throughout Kansas.

Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones is offering help.

Jones is sending 1,200 postcards to Special Olympics Kansas athletes, the organization announced Wednesday.

“Our athletes are struggling with isolation and missing opportunities to train and compete with their teammates,” said Heather Waters, Special Olympics Kansas spokesperson. “Getting a postcard from Chris is going to lift a lot of athletes.”

Through the Lifted Campaign, Jones will leave a personalized, handwritten message on cards that are mailed to athletes. The campaign has a goal to reach all 4,300 athletes. Jones has volunteered for more than a quarter-share of them.

In 2019, Jones hosted Special Olympics athletes from both Kansas and Missouri during the Chiefs training camp.
