Wichita native Blake Bell signs one-year deal with Dallas Cowboys, source says
Tight end Blake Bell, a native of Wichita, Kansas, who helped the Chiefs during their championship run to Super Bowl LIV, is heading to Texas.
The Dallas Cowboys are signing Bell to a one-year deal, a source confirmed Wednesday morning with The Star. Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, a sister newspaper of The Star, first reported the news.
Financial details of the deal were not revealed.
Widely regarded as a blocker, Bell joined the Chiefs in 2019 and quickly became a key component of the Chiefs’ highly successful “Tiger Personnel” package (one running back, two tight ends) alongside Travis Kelce. Bell appeared in 15 regular-season games with seven starts, totaling eight catches for 67 yards on 15 targets.
The Chiefs expressed interest in bringing back Bell, the source told The Star, before Bell chose Dallas after making what was categorized as a “hard decision.”
With Bell gone, the Chiefs now have Kelce, Deon Yelder, Nick Keizer and Alize Mack on their roster at the tight end position.
Bell becomes the fifth player the Chiefs have lost to free agency. He joins cornerback Kendall Fuller (Washington), defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah (Dolphins), guard Stefen Wisniewski (Steelers) and safety Jordan Lucas (Bears) to sign with another team.
