Chiefs live free-agency tracker, Day 2: Kendall Fuller heads back to Washington

Day 2 of the NFL’s open negotiations period kicked off Tuesday.

During the period, NFL teams are allowed to contact and negotiate with certified agents representing players who are scheduled to become unrestricted free agents at 3 p.m. Central time Wednesday.

Monday saw the Chiefs take care of some in-house matters, including utilizing a non-exclusive franchise tag on defensive tackle Chris Jones and exercising club options on running back Damien Williams and linebacker Damien Wilson.

The first day also saw the Chiefs lose their first player to another team, as cornerback Kendall Fuller reportedly agreed to terms late Monday on a four-year deal to return to Washington.

What will Tuesday bring?

Follow along below for stories involving the Chiefs, with most recent transactions first.

Ogbah heads to South Beach

The Chiefs ended their season in Miami with a Super Bowl championship on Feb. 4, and now one of their free agents is heading back to South Florida play for that city’s team.

Defensive end Emmanual Ogbah agreed to two-year deal worth $15 million with the Dolphins, ESPN reported, citing Ogbah’s agency, Rosenhaus Sports.

Ogbah joined the Chiefs in April 2019 via a trade with the Cleveland Browns and went on to appear in 10 games, totaling 5.5 sacks before suffering a season-ending torn pectoral muscle.

He becomes the second defensive player that the Chiefs have lost to free agency this week.

While you were sleeping

The Chiefs officially lost their first player to free agency Monday night ... and it’s a blow to their defensive secondary.

Cornerback Kendall Fuller agreed to a four-year deal worth $40 million to return to Washington, according to the NFL Network.

Fuller played in Washington from 2016-17 before joining the Chiefs in 2018 in a trade for QB Alex Smith. Fuller’s ability to play nickel cornerback and safety proved valuable during the Chiefs’ run at a Super Bowl championship. He contributed at safety during the postseason after rookie Juan Thornhill tore his ACL in the regular-season finale, recording the game-sealing interception in Super Bowl LIV.

In the regular season, Fuller had 49 tackles and two passes defensed on 507 defensive snaps.

Fuller’s departure might not be the last for the KC cornerback group, as Bashaud Breeland, Morris Claiborne and Keith Reaser are scheduled to become unrestricted free agents.
