Chiefs announce plans to keep training camp in St. Joseph. Here are the details
The Chiefs are returning to St. Joseph.
The Super Bowl champions announced a three-year agreement to preserve Missouri Western State University as their training camp home through at least the 2022 season. The agreement includes an option to extend the deal to 2024.
The Chiefs began holding training camp on the campus in 2010.
“Our team researched and reviewed a number of viable options over the past six months. Through those meetings and discussions, we unanimously decided to return to St. Joseph,” Chiefs president Mark Donovan said in a statement.
To comply with the new agreement, Missouri Western is making “a number of upgrades to better serve fans, the club, the community and Missouri Western students,” according to a news release. They will renovate Scanlon Hall, where Chiefs players and coaches stay. They will add new seating on the north end of the practice fields.
“Missouri Western is elated to welcome the champions back to our campus,” school president Matt Wilson said. “Working together with the Chiefs over the past decade has clearly been beneficial for the club, the university, our community partners and the state of Missouri.”
The dates for this summer’s Chiefs training camp are slated to be announced in June.
