Trophy in hand, Super Bowl champion Chiefs return to Kansas City

The Lombardi Trophy is back in Kansas City for the first time in 50 years.

A Chiefs charter plane touched down Monday afternoon at Kansas City International Airport. After the door opened, coach Andy Reid walked down a staircase with the silver trophy his team captured by beating the San Francisco 49ers 31-20 on Sunday night in Super Bowl LIV in Miami.

Before returning to Kansas City, Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes attended a news conference Monday morning in Miami for the Super Bowl champions. Then Mahomes was off to Walt Disney World in Orlando for his Super Bowl MVP parade.

Next up for the Chiefs is Wednesday’s victory parade in downtown Kansas City. The parade starts at 11:30 a.m. and will conclude with a rally in front of Union Station that will start around 1:30 p.m.

The Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory Sunday was their second in three attempts and first since they beat Minnesota 23-7 in Super Bowl IV in 1970. The Chiefs lost the first Super Bowl 35-10 to Green Bay in 1967.
