Chiefs’ final practice before Super Bowl LIV included dancing
If the Chiefs are nervous about playing on the biggest stage in the United States, they’re hiding it really, really well.
According to a pool report from Lindsay Jones of the Pro Football Writers of America, the Chiefs’ final practice before Super Bowl LIV was moved indoors Saturday in Davie because of thunderstorms that raked the Miami area overnight.
The pool report said practice was spent on a “’mock game,’ as they went through at least a dozen plays (coach Andy) Reid expects to call during the game.”
Dancing was involved, too.
When quarterback Patrick Mahomes took the first snap, the pool report noted, Will Smith’s song “Welcome to Miami” began playing. Chiefs players “danced through nearly the entire session,” per the report.
“They’re loose, to a point. They know the job at hand against a real good football team, but at the same time, we try to let our personalities show,” Reid told Jones. “That’s been an emphasis, and I don’t expect them to stop doing that now.”
The session lasted 27 minutes, the pool report said, and the team then took an official photo, which included owner Clark Hunt. Reid gave the players Saturday afternoon free so they could spend time with family and friends.
“I hope they get off their feet a little bit and enjoy their families, and then really focus in, get yourself going in the right direction,” Reid told Jones.
